Avoid Using Hot Water
Hot water may feel relaxing, but it can strip the scalp of its natural oils and damage the protective barrier. This leads to dryness, irritation, and in the long term, a weakened scalp. A weakened scalp makes hair follicles more fragile and prone to falling out. It's best to use lukewarm water — around 36 to 38°C.
Don’t Apply Shampoo Directly to Your Scalp
Many people squeeze shampoo onto their hands and immediately rub it into their scalp. But applying shampoo without first lathering it in your hands can expose your scalp to harsh chemicals. Always foam the shampoo with water in your palms before gently applying it. Think of your scalp like your face — it needs gentle care.
No Scratching with Fingernails
Some people use their fingernails to scrub their scalp because it feels refreshing. However, this can cause micro-scratches, leading to inflammation and damaging the hair follicles. Always use the pads of your fingers to massage the scalp gently in a circular motion.
Don’t Rinse Too Quickly
In a rush, it’s tempting to rinse off the shampoo too quickly. But shampoo residues left behind can block pores, irritate the scalp, and worsen hair loss. Rinse thoroughly for at least 1 to 2 minutes to ensure all product is completely washed away.
Shampooing Too Often Can Backfire
If you have an oily scalp, you might think washing your hair 2–3 times a day is helpful. But overwashing strips the scalp of its natural moisture and can cause it to produce even more oil. For most people, shampooing once a day in the evening is ideal. It helps remove the sweat, dirt, and sebum accumulated throughout the day.
